I like these quotes, so I thought I'd share:
*
"You're just going to need to get rid of the idea that marriage will make you happy. It won't. Once the initial high wears off, you'll just be you, except with twice as much laundry. " Tracy McMillan, TV writer, Mad Men, United States of Tara
*
"We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart." ~H L Mencken"
*
The question has always been, "Why didn't you/don't you love me?" when it probably should be, "Why did I ever put so much energy into loving you?" ~Daisy McCrazy"

In Defense Of Continental "Fops".

In my experience I've come to categorise men into two brackets (as my friends will testify).... they are either poets or truck drivers, and they can be placed in either category no matter what their real profession. Some of the most educated men I've known have fallen into into the "truck driver" category, while a number of truck drivers have been "poets".

The difference is that one group makes love to you... the other just fucks. If all I was interested in was having an orgasm, I'd never get involved with a man. I can usually do quite well in the department all alone, thankyoufuckingverymuch and have none of the bullshit that goes with it. *grin*

I want a man who kisses my hand... and my neck... and my toes... and my back. My entire body is an erogenous zone... and a real man knows that. Most especially "continental fops".

"Just my ever-so-practical point of view: I've heard of guys that vow, "I'd die for you." And then what?
Pass.
I'd rather a guy lived for me, yanno? In my perfect world, he'd exercise and eat right and maintain healthy BP and lipids and not smoke or overdrink so he'd be able to do something other than function as a paperweight as we age together...

I love to cook, so I especially like this quote:
*
"When I wrote my cookbook, the how-long-should-it-cook-for question reared its head early and often. My publisher seemed to assume that the recipes would be followed by people who were inattentive and easily confused. I did my best to be accurate, but telling someone to cook a piece of fish for exactly five minutes is like saying, "Drive for exactly five minutes and then turn right." Sometimes you'd hit the road, other times the side of a building." - Do Recipes Make You a Better Cook? - Daniel Patterson of Coi in Food & Wine magazine

*
"The trick is getting my mouth words to go with my head think." A Bumper Sticker
*
*
“Happiness is a byproduct of function, purpose, and conflict; those who seek happiness for itself seek victory without war.” - Burroughs.

"I think we're very much two creatures... the divine and the bestial if you will. We live along this scale, and where we are on the scale is in part our nature, in part our education and experience.

In our society, I think birds of a feather flock together. People who have more divine nature tend to hang together, and the more bestial hang together. Oddly, it seems that those who are more bestial (base their lives on values like personal protection and their own comforts and primary needs) are those who talk most about being less animalistic and more like God, while those who are more divine (concerned with abstracts light art, human rights, and beauty) are those who are more comfortable in recognizing their shared animalism.

Each group has their own political and social powerbases. What I find is that certain social/ political events activate these groups and/or drive others up and down the scale as they feel threatened or fulfilled by their lives.

I'll go a little farther, and say that peace activates divinity and that war activates bestial natures, and that a well developed, confident individual is more likely to be well educated and liberal while someone who lives in fear, poverty and ignorance is more likely to be conservative and fundamentalist in his/her religious beliefs." - Kate of Multiply and other places too

With the increasing sophistication, digitalization, and conveniences of today’s world, most of us can live our entire lives barely lifting a finger other than to a keyboard. Like an extreme sport, homesteading is an exercise of the human spirit. A testing of our bodies, minds, and wills outside the luxurious twenty-first century box. Just as our grandparents and parents fled the farm, eager to clasp Linoleum, Parkay, and K-Mart to their bosoms, we flee in the other direction. We want to build fences, raise chickens, milk a cow, dig a root cellar, home-can vegetables, bake bread, and grow our own fruit. We don’t have to do it; we want to do it. We do it for the self-sustainability, the fresh food, the satisfaction of a day’s work, and the steely test of our wills. Some of us do it on farms, some of us do it on a few acres. Some of us even do it in one-bedroom urban apartments.

We’re the new back-to-the-landers.

Not everybody understands us, but that’s okay. We don’t understand them either.

So, like, let me get this straight. God got this lady pregnant and made her have a baby and then killed it so you could get away with whatever shit you wanted as long as you felt sorry?
